The Reigerpark Community - Performing Arts Project

About

The aim of this project is to provide the community and it's children with healthy outlets.  It may also introduce the youth to positive role models within the community and also alternative careers.  Some of the leaders or teachers are facing challenges in service delivery due to various factors.

Well-being

Dance your way to overall well-being, both mentally, emotionally and physically. Get the children out of the streets and practising at home in a safe environment. An activity that the whole family can be a part of.

Early child development

There is no downside to bringing children and music together through fun activities. We are able to enjoy the benefits of music from the moment we’re born, as music can soothe infants and stimulate child development.

From the pure pleasure of listening to soothing sounds and rhythmic harmonies, to gaining new language and social skills, whatever the setting – a quiet room at home with family, a large grassy field filled with people, or a busy classroom – music can enliven and enrich the lives of children and the people who care for them.

Cancer Survivors

In the past, people being treated for a chronic illness (an illness a person may live with for a long time, like cancer or diabetes) were often told by their doctor to rest and reduce their physical activity. This is good advice if movement causes pain, rapid heart rate, or shortness of breath. But newer research has shown that exercise is not only safe and possible during cancer treatment, but it can improve how well you function physically and your quality of life.

Too much rest can lead to loss of body function, muscle weakness, and reduced range of motion. So today, many cancer care teams are urging their patients to be as physically active as possible during cancer treatment. Many people are learning about the advantages of being physically active after treatment, too.
